Can Dr. Carrie be my Primary Care Provider?
Yes, I am happy to be a primary care provider for adult patients. Because ND's do not have hospital privileges, there are some situations where I would act as a specialist consulting and need to defer to the care of the presiding physicians. There are also some insurance plans that do not allow Naturopathic physicians to be the primary care provider. I do not do primary pediatrics but can see pediatric patients as a specialist.
Can Dr. Carrie prescribe medications?
Yes, Naturopathic physicians in Washington State are trained in pharmacology and can prescribe any of the non controlled substances such as thyroid medication, birth control and antibiotics. I generally try to start with diet and life style interventions, then supplements and only use medications where indicated as the best option.
